Description

NGC 869 (h Per) & 884 (x Per) are best known as the Double Cluster in constellation Perseus.

Wikipedia says : "Each cluster is half a degree in diameter. NGC 869 is the more compressed one, and have over 200 white and bluish-white members. NGC884 has 175 mostly white and bluish-white stars. They are respectively 6'800 and 9'600 l-y away from home. Both of them are located in the Perseus OB1 association. They are quite young, with NGC 869 being 5.6 million year old and NGC 884 at 3.2 million years old. Their hottest main sequence stars are of spectral type B0. They are approaching Earth at a speed of 21-22 km/s."

A quick attempt at those beautiful clusters just before clouds ruin the session. I had also do deal with battery failure in the remote controller, giving me only 30 sec built-in exposure time. Setting the ISO at 400 was a not bad idea I guess. By the way, I spent the first part of the night rambling in the Milky Way with binoculars and my other 4'' refractor. Good to rediscover stars and DSO sometimes ;-)
